We as pet owners know one of the hardest things we’ll ever have to do is say goodbye. Whether you’ve had a short time with your pet, or have lived a lifetime with them, it never gets any easier. I worked with Lindsey and her pups Miller and Mildred and I’m so glad we were able to fit this session in. Lindsey contacted me early in the summer when Miller’s health took a quick decline. My calendar was crazy busy, but when we spoke, she was concerned that he wouldn’t make it until Fall, which was my first opening. I was uncomfortable waiting as well and asked if she could remain flexible, I’d get her in as quickly as possible.
We made it happen and photographed in one of my favorite parks in town. It’s one she takes them regularly for walks so I knew they would be comfortable there. She adopted Miller just a year before and he was already a senior with health issues. I love how candid their session was. She was patient and fun loving and those always make for the best and most meaningful images. She had adopted Miller as a friend for her girl Mildred. They were super adorable together.
Sadly, Miller passed just shortly after our session. I’m not sure why it always seems to go like that. I wasn’t even sure she’d be up for seeing her images so soon. But I think, although difficult to see, it somehow brings some comfort as well. She put together a beautiful gallery wall with her favorite images and just recently shared it with me. I think it captures so much of her pups personalities, the scenic, the fun and the quirky as well as their special relationship together. I know she will treasure these images for a lifetime and hold them close to her heart.
If you have a senior dog and have considered a portrait session, please don’t wait. For me personally, I think it’s one of the most important gifts. My pets bring me SO much happiness and I couldn’t imagine not having beautiful images to remember them by.
Enjoy her session favorites-xo
